Description
A row of three houses at 50, 52, and 54 Botanic Road, Churchtown, Southport, probably dating from the early 18th century and altered subsequently. Nos. 50 and 54 are now shops. The houses are constructed of whitewashed brick and white-painted render (in No. 50), with a half-hipped thatched roof. They follow a single-depth plan.
The exterior is one storey with an attic, featuring a five-window range. No. 50 has a doorway with a pilastered surround, now altered to a window with glazing bars and arched top panes, flanked by large, slightly-bowed multi-pane windows, all with friezes and cornices. Its right-hand gable wall includes an inserted glazed door and a small window above. No. 52 has a three-light sliding sash window at ground floor level, a formerly similar window above which has been altered to a casement, with a thatch eyebrow above, and a doorway to the left featuring a wooden lintel and board door. No. 54, slightly lower in height, has a taller doorway next to No. 52, a small rectangular plate-glass shop window with a pilastered surround, and a small two-light sliding sash window to its left. A ridge chimney stands at the junction of Nos. 50 and 52, and a gable chimney is visible on No. 54.
The interior was not inspected during the listing assessment. The buildings form a group with Nos. 56-62 to the left.
