Description
68 and 70 Botanic Road are a pair of houses, with No. 70 currently functioning as a shop. They were likely built in the late 18th century and underwent alterations in the 19th century. The houses are constructed of handmade brown brick, primarily in English garden wall bond, and feature a slate roof.
The exterior consists of two storeys and has a three-window range. No. 68, located on the right, has a doorway with a wedge lintel and a 20th-century door. To the right of the doorway is a large 12/18 sash window, with another identical window above it, both having raised sills. The lower window also features a wedge lintel. To the left on the first floor, there is a small 3/6 sash window, and the gable wall is rendered with one small 6-pane window on each floor.
No. 70 has an altered double-fronted shop window at the ground floor and a single 12/18 sash window above. There is a gable chimney on the right and a ridge chimney at the junction with the adjoining No. 72 on the left.
The buildings form a group with the adjoining Nos. 72-86 and with Nos. 53, 55, and 57 located opposite.
