Description

No. 96 Botanic Road is a former pair of houses, now combined into one dwelling, located in Churchtown, Southport. The building likely dates from the 17th century but underwent alterations in the 19th century. It features whitewashed brick and some cobblestone, with thatched and slate roofs across two levels.

The former No. 94, now integrated with No. 96, has a single-depth two-unit plan and is a single storey with a two-window range. Its design is asymmetrical, featuring a boarded door flanked by low three-light sliding sash windows, with the left window smaller and equipped with shutter-lugs. The thatched roof has overhanging eaves and verges, along with gable chimneys.

To the left, the former No. 96 is a single unit with two storeys and a single-window range. Its front wall is made of whitewashed cobblestones, and it has a slate roof. The ground floor has a small-paned two-light sliding sash window, while the upper floor features a two-light casement window. At the rear, the single-storey portion includes two three-light sliding sash windows and one four-light casement, along with a flat-roofed porch at the east end.

The building forms a group with the adjoining No. 98 on the left and Nos. 100 and 102 further to the left.
