Description

These are a pair of gate piers located next to the south-west corner of the Parish Hall, which is not included in this listing. They were formerly part of the gateway to the churchyard of the Church of St Cuthbert and were relocated in 1935. The gate piers date from around 1730 to 1740 and are made of dressed sandstone. Each pier is approximately 0.5 meters square in section and about 3 meters high. They feature moulded bases and very prominent moulded cornices, which are topped with gadrooned flaming urn finials. These gate piers form a group with the Hesketh Arms on Botanic Road to the right.
