Description
The remains of stocks, dated 1741 on an attached 20th-century plaque, are located beside the churchyard wall of the Church of St Cuthbert in Southport. These stocks have been relocated and altered. They are made of sandstone and are situated close to the boulder-built section of the west churchyard wall. The structure consists of a pair of square stone posts with rounded tops. Each post has a slot on the inner side for a wooden rail, which is missing, and between the feet of the posts are two low slabs hollowed out for two pairs of legs. A 20th-century plaque is attached to the top of the left post. The stocks form a group with the churchyard wall, the Church of St Cuthbert, No. 9 (Church Cottage), and the Churchtown Conservative Club opposite.
