Description
145 and 146 High Street are a pair of houses set back from the street, with the main structure of No. 145 suggesting it was built in the early 17th century and later refronted around 1820. The houses are constructed of rubble, mostly rendered, with a pantile roof and some concrete tiles at the rear. They are two storeys high and have three windows. The first floor features plain sash windows, while the ground floor of No. 145 has a tripartite sash window with eight panes, twelve panes, and eight panes. No. 146 has a 20th-century shopfront and a 20th-century door with a transom light. No. 145 has a six-panel door with a flat slab hood that has a moulded edge on shaped brackets. Each house has a coped gable with an ashlar stack. The rear range also features coped gables, with one gable end made of squared rubble and large dressed quoins, and a two-light casement window. The main rear wall is mainly in painted rubble. Inside, No. 145 has a much-altered roof but retains principal rafters and tie beams measuring 300 by 100 millimetres, with butted purlins joined to the principals using horn tenons.
