Description
No. 132 High Street is a house that dates back to 1832 and was formerly an Institute. The building is constructed of rubble with large flush alternating ashlar quoins and features a pantile roof. It has a long narrow plan, set gable to the street, with an entry on the west side. At the rear, there is a link block that connects to a large later hall or schoolroom, which is not included in this listing.
The exterior of the building is three storeys high and has a hipped end facing the street, featuring plain sash windows at each level, with paired windows on the ground floor. The long return front has four windows, primarily twelve-pane sashes in flush surrounds. The central door is flanked by eight-pane sashes, creating a unified appearance. Above the door, there is a projecting stone plaque with a worn coat of arms in a cartouche surround, inscribed with "Rebuilt 1832." There are two deep ashlar stacks in the valley, which are shared with the adjoining No. 133. The interiors have not been inspected.
