Description
No. 9 Churchgate is a house that likely dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century and has been altered over time. It is constructed of white painted brick in English garden wall bond, which consists of five courses plus one, probably replacing an earlier construction of clamstaff-and-daub. The house features a steeply-pitched thatched roof and has a single-depth plan with two unequal units, including a small outshut pantry on the north side (the rear).
The exterior is single-storey and faces the lane, with the outshut offset to the left of center. It has a catslide roof that extends down to a low level, featuring a small square window on its right side. To the left, there is a three-light sliding sash window, and to the right, a two-light sliding sash window. A small ridge chimney is offset to the left of center.
The interior has not been inspected. This building forms a group with No. 7 to the left and Nos. 4-14 opposite.
