Description
Chamber Height Farmhouse and Barn is a late 18th-century laithe house located off Burnley Road East in Rawtenstall. The building is constructed from sandstone rubble, featuring some quoins, and has a stone slate roof with a chimney at the left gable and another on the ridge where it joins the barn.
The farmhouse is a double-depth, single-bay structure, while the barn extends to the right under the same roof and consists of three bays. The two-storey house has a single-storey gabled porch with a simple doorway at the junction with the barn. To the left of the porch, there are coupled vertical rectangular windows, and the first floor has two windows, all of which have altered glazing.
The barn includes a central segmental-headed wagon entrance with recessed doors. The left return wall of the house features a two-storey lean-to, and the rear has a single-storey lean-to along with vertical rectangular windows. The rear of the barn has a deep continuous outshut that descends to a low rear wall, with a doorway located in the re-entrant side. This building is listed as a good example of a modest type.
