Description
Higher Fairbanks Farmhouse and attached barn is a late 18th-century laithehouse located in Goodshaw Fold, Rawtenstall. The building is constructed from whitewashed watershot coursed sandstone rubble and features a stone slate roof with chimneys positioned at the left gable, on the ridge, and at the junction.
The farmhouse is a single-depth, two-bay structure that stands two storeys high. It has a low gabled porch with an altered doorway and two flush mullion windows on each floor: three lights on the left and two lights on the right, mostly fitted with 4-pane glazing. The barn, which extends to the right of the farmhouse, includes a large segmental-headed wagon arch, a very small square window located under the eaves above, and a plain doorway at the right-hand end. This property is noted as a good example of a humble type of building.
