Description
Lower Fairbanks Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed from whitewashed coursed sandstone rubble and features a stone slate roof with gable chimneys. The building has a single-depth, two-bay plan and stands two storeys tall, displaying an almost symmetrical facade.
The front includes a low single-storey gabled porch with stone coping and kneelers, topped with a felted roof and featuring a boarded door in a plain surround. There are two flush mullion windows on each floor: to the left, a stepped triple light window and a four-light casement above it; to the right, a two-light top-hung casement on each floor.
At the left end of the farmhouse is a single-storey lean-to made of random rubble with a slate roof, which has a simple doorway at the junction and a very low horizontal window above. On the right end, not included in the listing, is a projecting barn with a corrugated sheet roof at a lower level that embraces the gable. The rear of the farmhouse is almost blind, featuring only one window on each floor near the end of the second bay.
