Description
Carr Bank Farmhouse is a mid-18th century building originally constructed as two dwellings, now used as a store. It features coursed sandstone rubble and a stone slate roof, complete with gable chimneys and a central ridge chimney, as well as coping on the rear of the left gable. The farmhouse has a cruciform plan, is double-depth with two bays, and includes a large projecting porch and a short rear extension. The structure is two storeys tall and symmetrical. The two-storey gabled double porch has two open doorways with plain surrounds, a square four-pane sashed window in the centre on the first floor, a rectangular recess for a datestone below this window, and gable coping with kneelers. To the left of the porch, the first bay features a coupled four-pane sashed window on each floor, while the second bay to the right has horizontal rectangular eight-pane sashes. The rear extension has been built back to earth, with the upper floor and roof removed, exposing the full-height rear partition wall. Inside, there are stone staircases in both parts of the building.
