Description

Rakefoot Methodist Church, originally a Wesleyan Methodist Day and Sunday School built in 1874, is now a church. It is constructed of rock-faced sandstone with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof with a gable chimney. The building has a rectangular plan measuring 3 by 6 bays, with a 3-bay bridging wing that connects the right side to the rear of the original church. It is one storey high with a basement, built on sloping ground.

The gable facing the road is symmetrical and designed in a classical style, featuring channelled pilasters and a pediment. The central bay has channelled rustication with a pediment that breaks into the main pediment, showcasing a round-headed door with imposts and a keystone, a cornice, and a small round-headed upper window. The flanking bays contain round-headed sashed windows with slender glazing bars creating margin panes.

The projecting first bay of the right return wall has an open-pedimented design with a similar window and a circular window above. Attached at right angles to this is a raised 3-bay wing featuring tall round-headed windows that connects to the rear wall of the former Rakefoot Methodist Church. The left return wall has five similar but simpler windows, along with a modern single-storey addition at right angles to the rear bay, which is not included in the listing.
