Description

The Methodist Chapel, built around 1860, is a Methodist church constructed of red sandstone random rubble with limestone dressings and a modern slate roof featuring decorative ridge tiles. The building has an "L" plan layout, with a two-stage octagonal tower located in the southeast corner. The southwest wing contains a vestry, and the gable end faces the road. The façade is divided into five bays, with pointed arch-headed lights throughout, except for the ground floor of the vestry. The vestry gable end features a two-light window, while below it is a three-light square-headed mullioned window. The right side has three two-light wooden mullioned and transomed windows. The tower includes rectangular lancets and has a moulded cornice with blank panels, topped with a decorative finial on the stone slated roof. The interior has not been viewed, but the chapel is noted as an important contribution to the street scene.
