Description
The Croft is a farmhouse and outbuilding that has been converted into two cottages. It dates from the 17th century, with possible earlier origins, and was altered in the mid-20th century. The building features red sandstone random rubble roughcast on the garden front and has a thatched roof that is hipped to the right. There is a large external stone stack located to the right of the entrance and at the right gable end.
The layout suggests it may have originally been an open hall house with a solar jettied out over the service end, but it is now arranged as three cells with an attached outbuilding. The structure is one and a half storeys high and consists of five bays. The windows are a mix of 20th-century styles, including a three-light ovolo moulded mullioned casement to the right of the stack on the ground floor, and a first-floor dormer above the entrance that features a partly renewed three-light steeply chamfered mullion. The entrance has a 20th-century single-storey glazed porch with a plank door located to the centre right.
Inside, there is an incomplete plasterwork frieze depicting flowers and fruit, along with a small female bust in the central room that has a lateral stack. The upper storey has not been viewed but is said to contain five pairs of jointed crucks.
