Description

The remains of a roadside cross, dating from the 14th century, are made of red sandstone. The structure features a square socket with broached corners, but the shaft has eroded down to a mound about 250 millimeters high. At the time of the survey in November 1983, the cross was almost completely obscured by vegetation. This cross is located beside what was once the main roadway connecting Cleeve Abbey and Chapel Cleeve, although the cobbled footway mentioned in earlier records was not visible during the survey. The extent of the Monk's Path is discussed in the Proceedings of the West Somerset Industrial Archaeological Society from 1983.
