Description

Old Cleeve Post Office is a pair of cottages that have been converted into a single dwelling with a Post Office, dating from the 17th to 18th century, with alterations made in the early to mid-20th century. The building features roughcast over rubble and has a thatched roof, which is half hipped on one wing. There is a large external stepped stack on the left side.

The original layout consists of two-cell cottages with a cross passage, oriented with the gable end facing the road, and an attached rear wing that now houses the Post Office. The garden facade is one and a half storeys high and has a 2:1 bay arrangement. The windows include early to mid-20th century wood and metal casements, with a three-light dormer and two two-light dormer casements. On the ground floor, there are three-light casements flanking a plank door on the left and two-light casements flanking another plank door on the right.

On the left side, which faces the street, there is a three-light early 19th century leaded iron casement dormer on the first floor, and the thatch is swept up to the large external stepped stack on the right. Between the stack and the dormer, there is a 20th-century two-light metal casement. The ground floor features an early 20th-century shop front with a bow window consisting of four panes by nine panes, a two-light casement on the right, and a half-glazed door located center left, which serves as the entrance to the Post Office.
