Description

The Post Office is a house and post office that was formerly two cottages, built in the late 19th century. It features plastered cob or rubble construction, with disused rubble stacks and a slate roof.

The building consists of a pair of adjoining double-depth cottages, each with one front and one rear room. The right former cottage now houses the Post Office at the front, with a cross passage leading to the stairs on the left side. The left former cottage no longer has a front door. The structure is two storeys high, with the right cottage displaying a two-window front.

On the ground floor, there is a late 19th-century two-bay shop front that retains some early 20th-century glazing patterns and a central doorway. This shop front is flanked by panelled pilasters and features a moulded entablature above. To the left, there is a late 19th-century panelled and part-glazed door, with the glazing containing margin panes of coloured glass. The overlight above the door has a single glazing bar. The first floor has horned sash windows with glazing bars, surrounded by moulded timber architraves. Above, there is a late 19th-century timber eaves cornice with shaped brackets and a front valance.

The left cottage has one first-floor and two ground-floor horned sash windows with glazing bars. It is believed that the original doorway has been blocked to the right of the ground floor windows. The roofs over each former cottage are pitched at different angles. The interior has not been inspected.
