Description
The Old Post Office is a building that was originally two cottages, now combined into one, and it served as the Post Office. It dates from the 17th century and has undergone later alterations. The structure is timber-framed with plaster infill and features coursed lias limestone at the ends. It has a steeply pitched thatched roof with brick stacks at the ends. The building has a two-unit plan, with the right half being a later addition that has a slight backward break.
The exterior is a single storey with an attic and has a two-window range. The ground floor features two pairs of windows, which include both 20th-century and older two-light casements, flanking a smaller two-light window. The raking dormer and eyebrow dormer each have two-light small-paned casements, equipped with iron opening casements and wrought-iron casement fasteners. The left side of the building shows some brick repairs and has two tiny first-floor lights, while the right side has a small 20th-century window on the first floor. At the rear, there is a large brick wing with raking dormers leading to a hipped roof and an entrance. The interior has not been inspected.
