Description
A barn range, now used as offices, dates to the 17th century, with later additions from the 18th century and a stable from the 19th century, and a late 20th-century restoration and alteration. The building is timber-framed with brick and plaster infill, sitting on a plinth of coursed limestone rubble. There are also brick additions and a renewed tile roof.
The three-bay barn has rows of square ventilation holes and an exposed wall plate. The central threshing floor entrance has modern glazed panels. To the right is a two-bay section from the 17th century; it has square framing three panels high, with coursed rubble and a raking buttress on the left and a tension brace on the right. The upper panels have plaster infill, featuring a pitching hole with a wide-boarded shutter. A stable at the right end has a segmental-headed entrance with a split door and a small, blocked window. A single-storey, three-window range from the 20th century is situated at the left end.
The rear elevation is brick on a high limestone rubble plinth, with inserted windows and a pitching hole. There’s also a glazed threshing floor entrance.
Inside the barn, there are two tie beam and collar trusses with angle struts and vertical wind braces. A truss at the right end has a collar and queen posts. Modern galleries flank the central space, which is open to the roof.
