Description

The barn and outbuildings located immediately northeast of Manor House Farmhouse date from the 17th century and have undergone later alterations and additions, including changes to the roof trusses. The structure features a timber frame with 20th-century brick and wattle-and-daub infill, as well as brick and coursed rubble, topped with a steeply pitched half-hipped roof covered in renewed tiles. The barn consists of five bays, with additions at each end. The northwest shelter shed range includes a two-storey cross-wing at one end, while the later southwest shelter shed range is also present.

On the exterior, the east elevation of the barn features two former threshing floor entrances that have been infilled with 20th-century brick, along with windows above. To the left of these entrances is a bay with square framing and tension braces over a high stone plinth. The timber-framed bay to the right shows some alterations to a former entrance and is likely an extension from a three-bay barn to five bays, including an extra threshing floor. The left end has a timber-framed addition with large brick panels and a high frieze window, while the right end reveals the visible end of a stone cross wall and an addition with a timber-framed attic above stone, with an entrance to the left. The left return features a brick gable, while the right return has a loading door flanked by windows.

Inside, the barn contains four roof trusses with tie beams, two of which are braced, and queen struts leading to collars, with principals truncated at the upper purlins. The southern truss has a lower tie beam and straight crucks leading to a second collar with spurs. The end attic includes one cruck truss and a queen strut truss for the addition. The west elevation is similar but includes the shelter sheds, with the northern one constructed of stone and featuring brick infill at the front. It has tie-beam and collar trusses with struts, while the cross wing has timber-framed side walls and stone end walls, topped with timber-framed half-hipped gables over shuttered pitching holes. The outer wall is brick with a modillioned cornice and a small stone wing. The southern shelter shed is open-fronted and includes a 20th-century end block. The outbuildings were not previously listed.
