Description
Mount Tabor Methodist Church is an 1820 Wesleyan Methodist Chapel constructed from sandstone "brick" with ashlar trim. The building features two storeys and a basement, with a pediment-gabled front, a stone slate roof, and stone gable copings. It has a three-bay depth and an organ loft extension at the rear gable. The plain bank defining the pediment includes an oculus, while round-headed windows are set in squared ashlar surrounds with keystones. The ground floor is built out in ashlar and includes a porch added around 1860, along with a cornice and blocking course. The doorway has an architrave surround with a rectangular fanlight and is accessed by a flight of steps over an area. Similar round-headed windows are present on both floors of the side elevations. The interior was refurbished around 1870-1880, which included updates to the gallery fronts, pews, pulpit, and organ loft. The church is situated in a pleasant hillside burial ground setting.
