Description
Hargreaves Fold Farmhouse South is a farmhouse dating from around 1700. It is constructed of coursed sandstone with quoins, featuring a roof made of stone slates at the rear and slate, with stone coping and one kneeler at the left gable. The building has one ridge chimney and two gable chimneys. It is designed in a T-plan with three bays and a large outshut at the rear of the center, which includes the original entrance.
The farmhouse is two storeys high, and the south front, which faces the garden, originally did not have an entrance. It has a low plinth and a continuous drip course above three recessed chamfered mullion windows on the ground floor. In the first bay, there is a four-light window that is missing two mullions, leaving only the stools. The second bay features a six-light window with a king mullion, but it also lacks some mullions. The third bay has a two-light window with a chamfered mullion. On the first floor, the second bay has a recessed window with two square lights and a chamfered mullion, while to the left of this are three square windows, and to the right, there are two small rectangular windows.
At the rear, there is a large single-storey outshut, likely an early addition, which has a doorway in the centre of its low rear wall, along with a door and a chimney on the right side. Other external features are of less interest. Inside, the farmhouse has beams in all three bays, some of which have stopped chamfers (the beams in the second bay are now boxed). There is a stone staircase and a vaulted cellar in the second bay, which includes a well and stone side shelves.
