Description

A pair of cottages built in the late 18th century, located on Lumb Lane in Rawtenstall. They are constructed from watershot sandstone laid in diminishing courses, with a stone slate roof. The cottages have one chimney on the ridge, one where the cottages meet a barn to the left, and one at the right gable. Each cottage is a single depth and has two bays.

Both cottages have two storeys. Centrally, each cottage features a doorway with a plain surround; a glazed porch sits at the left-hand (No. 3) doorway. No. 3 features two stepped triple-light windows on each floor. No. 5 originally had matching windows, but the first-floor windows have since been altered. The rear wall has various less significant windows and no access door. A barn abuts the cottages at the left end. The cottages are part of an interesting group with Yates Cottages (listed separately).
