Description

Heightside is a house that dates from the later 18th century and was altered and extended in the later 19th century, although the extension is not included in this listing. The building is constructed from large dressed sandstone blocks and features a slate roof with two gabled dormers, and it currently has no chimney. It has a double-depth, three-bay plan and stands two storeys high.

The most notable feature is the five-bay symmetrical facade designed in a classical style. This facade includes rusticated quoins, which are now only present at the right corner, sill bands on two levels, a frieze with recessed triglyphs, and a moulded cornice that is mostly obscured by the overhanging eaves of the altered roof. The panelled door is framed by a classical surround made up of fluted pilasters, a swagged lintel, a frieze with triglyphs, and a large segmental pediment. The windows are all sash style with plain surrounds, except for the one above the door, which features a lugged architrave with a fluted keystone.
