Description
Higher Hollin is a row of three cottages, originally part of a row of five built in the late 18th century. At the time of the survey in 1984, the cottages were derelict but undergoing renovation. The cottages are constructed from watershot coursed sandstone and have a stone slate roof, featuring one chimney on the ridge and another at the left gable. The layout is single-depth, with the left cottage having two bays and the others having one bay each.
The cottages are two storeys high. The left cottage has a central doorway with a plain surround, while the junction of the other two cottages features two similar doorways side by side. The first three bays have a stepped triple-light window on each floor, although the left light of the first-floor window in the left cottage has been blocked off. The fourth bay has a doorway in place of the left light of the stepped ground floor window, and a similar triple-light window on the first floor, with the outer lights blocked. The rear of the cottages is back to earth and blind-backed, except for a square opening at the first floor. The interiors have been gutted.
