Description

Meadowcroft's Farmhouse is a farmhouse, likely built around 1700, that has been altered and is now used as a house. It is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with quoins and features a slate roof with two levels and gable chimneys on the higher section. The building is situated on a slope and consists of two main bays with a continuous outshut, along with a smaller added bay that is slightly lower and set back to the right.

The farmhouse has two storeys. The original rear outshut, which has been raised, now serves as the entrance front and includes a modern porch on the second bay. The first bay features a three-light window with chamfered mullions, and there is a similar window in the centre of the first floor. The third (added) bay has a similar window with two and three lights, although the fifth light is blocked. The rear of this section includes a four-light window on each floor, with the lower window having a hoodmould and the upper window missing two mullions, as well as a doorway with a modern canopy and a small round-headed window above it.

The rear of the main house is supported by two large buttresses and has a six-light window (missing one mullion) on the second bay, along with two altered windows with flush mullions at the first floor. Inside, the second bay contains a large inglenook with a stone heck and a chamfered bressummer, which houses a stone fireplace with moulded shouldered jambs and a very large lintel that is undercut as a depressed arch. There are recesses for salt cupboards on each side, and the beams feature cyma-stopped small chamfers. The roof of the outshut is supported by very large principals and purlins.
