Description

The Farmhouse and The Cottage are a pair of buildings constructed at various times from the early 18th century to the early 19th century. They are built from coursed rubble and hammer-dressed stone, much of which is watershot, and feature a graduated stone slate roof. The earlier rear and right-angled range on the right was incorporated into a later structure, resulting in a three-bay, double-depth, three-storey house with a workshop on the upper floor and a two-storey wing to the right. The building has stone quoins, and the first two bays have doors on the right side along with two and four-light windows. The upper floors of each bay contain four-light windows, all with recessed flat-faced stone mullions. The third bay, which includes the lower two floors of the earlier building and the upper floor of a later phase, features four-light recessed cavetto-moulded stone mullion windows on the lower floors and a five-light recessed flat-faced mullion window on the top floor. There are two ridge stacks and a blocked six-light mullion window in the gable. The right-hand range has two, three, four, and six-light recessed cavetto-moulded mullion windows. The rear displays similar four-light windows and shows signs of being heightened to accommodate the workshop, which has three five-light flat-faced stone mullion windows. One of the doors retains a well-preserved four-pane overlight. The workshop extends the full length of the building and is supported by a queen-post roof truss.
