SADDLEWORTH BOARSHURST LANE SE 00 SW (south side) 6/17 The Farmhouse and The Cottage (formerly listed as Three Storey Loom Houses to north west of 20/8/82 Ash Cottage) G.V. II Farmhouse and cottages. Various periods of construction from early C18 to early C19. Coursed rubble and hammer-dressed stone, much of which is watershot, with graduated stone slate roof. The rear and right-angled range to right are of the earlier date and were incorporated into the later structure creating a 3-bay double-depth, 3-storey house with workshop on the upper floor and 2-storey wing to right. Stone quoins. Bays 1 and 2 have doors to the right and 2 and 4-light windows. The upper floors each have 4-light windows in each bay; all have recessed flat-faced stone mullions. Bay 3 (the lower 2 floors of the earlier building, the upper of one of the last phases of construction) has 4-light recessed cavetto-moulded stone mullion windows on the lower floors and a 5-light recessed flat-faced mullion window on the top floor. 2 ridge stacks. Blocked 6-light mullion window to gable. The right-hand range has 2, 3, 4 and 6- light recessed cavetto-moulded mullion windows. The rear has similar 4-light windows but shows signs of being heightened to create the workshop which has three 5-light flat-faced stone mullion windows. One of the doors retains a good 4- pane overlight. The workshop runs the full length of the building the roof being supported on a queen-post roof truss.
