Description
Lower Tunstead Farmhouse is a farmhouse that features the date "EKE 1710" on its door lintel, although it largely dates from the late 18th century. It is constructed from hammer-dressed watershot stone and has a graduated stone slate roof. The building has two rooms on each floor, with a loom workshop located on the second floor and a gable entrance porch.
On the south side, the farmhouse has quoins and features ground floor windows with three and four lights that are recessed and flat-faced. There are similar three-light windows on the first floor, along with a relocated four-light double-chamfered mullion window, and three three-light flat-faced windows at the workshop level. The porch has a triangular-headed lintel, which is also found inside the porch.
The rear of the farmhouse retains some earlier masonry, including a two-light double-chamfered mullion window and another similar window that is carved from a single piece of stone. There are also two three-light windows for the workshop. A flight of stone steps against the gable provides separate access to the workshop. The building has gable stacks, one of which is rendered.
