Description
The Old Vicarage is a house built in 1780 for Thomas Shaw. It is constructed from watershot hammer-dressed stone and features a graduated stone slate roof. The building has a three-bay single-depth plan with three storeys and a small wing at the rear. Notable architectural details include a projecting plinth, quoins, and shaped eaves gutter brackets. The central door is adorned with a fanlight and a chamfered stone surround, flanked by six-light windows that have been heightened at some point. The first floor also features six-light windows and a central two-light window, all with recessed chamfered mullions and king mullions. On the second floor, there are three four-light recessed flat-faced mullion windows with continuous head and sill bands. The house has gable chimney stacks and a blocked taking-in door at the rear, along with one and two-light gable windows. The rear wing, dating from the 19th century, has been altered to include a garage and a small extension.
