Description
The Church of St. Mary is a Grade II listed church built in 1875 by G. Shaw for the Buckleys of Holly Ville. It features rock-faced stone with a slate roof and is designed in the Gothic revival style. The church has a five-bay nave with a projecting plinth, where each bay is supported by weathered buttresses and contains a 2-light window. The easternmost bay on the south side is gabled and includes a rose window. There are gabled vestries and organ chambers on either side of the chancel, which has a 3-light east window and a 4-light west window with geometrical tracery. The coped gables are topped with cross finials. The three-stage tower has angled weathered buttresses, clock faces, and paired windows in the belfry stage, capped by a broach spire adorned with a dogtooth-enriched band. Inside, the church features arch-braced roof trusses and an enriched chancel arch, along with timber fittings, a stone font, and stained glass by F. Commere, J. Capronnier, and T. F. Curtis.
