Description
A farmhouse and cottage, believed to originate from around 1645, but significantly altered and enlarged in the mid-18th century, late 18th century, and early 19th century. The buildings are constructed of hammer-dressed watershot stone, dressed stone, and squared rubble, with a graduated stone slate roof. The two-bay, double-depth farmhouse was built in front of the two-bay, single-depth cottage, creating an L-shaped layout. Both buildings are three storeys high. The cottage features stone quoins, shaped eaves gutter brackets, coped gables with kneelers. Its ground floor windows have 5 and 2-light double-chamfered cavetto-moulded mullions, while the upper floors, of a later date, have 7, 3, and a 13-light recessed flat-faced stone mullion windows with king mullions. The rear elevation includes a workshop window, a 4-light double-chamfered window, and displays evidence of construction across several periods. A 20th-century garage has been added against a gable. The farmhouse has 3 and 5-light cavetto-moulded recessed chamfered mullion windows and shows signs of having been raised to incorporate a second-floor workshop with a 13-light window (four of which are blocked). There are 1, 2, 3, and 4-light windows to the gables, with an entrance in the right-hand gable. Coped gables with kneelers and gable chimney stacks with oversailing courses are present.
