Description

No. 8 and the adjoining garages are a cottage, stables, and carriage house built in the early 19th century. The structure is made of hammer-dressed stone, mostly watershot, and features a graduated stone slate roof. The cottage is a two-bay, single-depth building with two storeys and has a 20th-century lean-to extension on the left. To the right, the stables and carriage house extend, with access to the first floor at the rear. The cottage has a gabled roof, a square-cut door surround on the left, a three-light window on the ground floor, and two two-light windows on the first floor, all with recessed flat-faced stone mullions. The stables and carriage house, added later, include a chamfered stable door with a blocked overlight, a segmental keystone-arched carriage entry, and a door with a square-cut surround. The first floor of the stables features two two-light windows (similar to those on the cottage), blocked vents, and two gables, all of which have finials, although two are damaged. The rear of the cottage has a blocked circular opening with stone dressings. This building is included for its group value.
