Description
Nos. 574 and 576 on Huddersfield Road comprise a house, an adjoining barn, and a cottage, dating from the mid to late 18th century. The building is constructed of watershot stone with a graduated stone slate roof. The barn and cottage, which were built before the house, feature an unusual layout with the barn positioned at the front and the cottage at the rear. The house is double-depth, consisting of three storeys and a central staircase. Its central door is framed by a square-cut stone surround. Each floor of the house includes two 3-light recessed flat-faced stone mullion windows, although the mullions have been removed from the ground floor. There are also two taking-in doors and a blocked attic light on the gable. The barn features a blocked segmental cart entry with a keystone, a loft hatch above, and a shippon door with a square-cut door surround to the left. Additionally, there is a lean-to porch and an owl hole on the gable, along with 2 and 3-light recessed flat-faced mullion windows on the cottage. The rear of the house has similar windows, and the chimney stacks have been heightened with engineering brick.
