Description
4 and 6 School Lane are two houses that were originally four cottages. The central bay, which is bay 4, dates back to the early 18th century, while the bays on either side were added later in the 18th century. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed stone, with a rendered rear, and features a graduated stone slate roof and brick stacks. It has five bays, is one room deep, and has two storeys. There is a 20th-century porch in bay 1 and against the right gable.
For No. 4, there are three, four, and two-light flat-faced stone mullion windows on each floor. The gable has three two-light windows, and there is a lean-to porch in bay 1. No. 6 has a door to the left, a three-light double-chamfered mullion window, and a six-light recessed flat-faced mullion window on the ground floor, along with three and four-light flat-faced mullion windows on the first floor. The rear has an outshut and four two-light windows similar to those on the front.
