Description
This listing describes a range of five houses located on School Lane, dating from the mid-18th century to the early 19th century. The houses are constructed from squared rubble and hammer-dressed stone, topped with a graduated stone slate roof. The range consists of eight bays and two storeys, with most houses being one room deep. There is a cart entrance situated between Nos. 11 and 12.
The earliest house, No. 11, originally had three bays and features a central square-cut door surround. It includes four five-light and one two-light recessed cavetto-moulded stone mullion windows, as well as a segmental-headed cart entrance. The other houses have square-cut door surrounds as well. No. 9 has two three-light flat-faced mullion windows, while No. 12 also has two three-light flat-faced mullion windows, though the ground floor mullions have been removed. No. 9A features two four-light recessed flat-faced mullion windows, and No. 10, which was originally two bays, has two five-light and one two-light recessed cavetto-moulded mullion window. The entire range has a total of six ridge chimney stacks.
