Description
The Swan Inn is a public house located in Dobcross, Saddleworth, with a datestone marking its construction by Benjamin Wrigley in 1765. The building is made of hammer-dressed watershot stone and features a graduated stone slate roof. It has a double-range plan consisting of two bays and two storeys, plus a basement. The corners of the building are accentuated with quoins. Each bay on both floors has a four-light window, including a four-light basement window, all featuring recessed chamfered mullions, most of which were replaced in the 20th century. The gable ends have chimney stacks, and the main entrance is located in the gable, framed by a square-cut surround with a datestone above. The gable also includes two-light windows and an arched attic light. A later addition to the rear of the building was constructed in two phases and extends to the left, featuring quoins, 19th-century door and window openings, and a four-light recessed flat-faced stone mullion gable window.
