Description

Brooks House is a doctor's house and surgery, dating from the 18th century, situated on the north-west side of Sandy Lane in Saddleworth. The building is constructed of hammer-dressed watershot stone with a graduated stone slate roof. It has a double-depth plan, featuring three storeys and three bays. Quoins and an eaves cornice are present. The central doorway is distinguished by an eared and shouldered architrave surmounted by a pediment. Paired sash windows, lacking glazing bars and set within square-cut surrounds, are found on each floor of bays 1 and 3. Bay 2 has single sash windows. Gable chimney stacks are present, one of which has been rebuilt in brick. Two doors lead to the gable; one is blocked and has a keystone lintel. A taking-in door is located on the second floor. The rear of the building features recessed, flat-faced mullion windows, partially obscured by a later lean-to extension.
