Description

The property at 4 and 6 Woods Lane, also known as numbers 1 and 14-16 Church Fields, is a late 18th-century building constructed from hammer-dressed watershot stone with a graduated stone slate roof. It comprises four bays arranged over three storeys, with the first bay projecting and featuring a canted corner on Woods Lane. This corner has large quoins, and the Church Fields elevation of this bay has 4 or 5-light recessed flat-faced mullion windows on each floor. Bays 2 and 3 have quoins, with doors set within square-cut stone surrounds, ground floor windows with 4 and 3-lights and recessed chamfered mullions, first-floor windows with two 5-light recessed flat-faced mullions, and a later top storey housing a 15-light recessed flat-faced mullion workshop window with king mullions. Bay 4 is set back and contains a door with a dressed surround, a ground floor window where the mullions have been removed, and 4-light recessed chamfered mullion windows on the upper floors. Most of the mullions have been rendered over. The building has ridge and gable chimney stacks, two of which have been rebuilt in brick.
