Description
Broad Oakes is a house with an adjoining cottage and barn located in Mirfield. The house dates from the mid-18th century and has been altered, while the cottage was built in the late 18th century and the barn around 1800. The building is constructed from deeply coursed stone and features quoins. The roofs are made of stone slate, with the house having a slightly steeper pitch compared to the lower cottage roof.
The house is two storeys high and has 19th-century windows, including one and two-light sashes with glazing bars. There is a small central staircase window and a central doorway, along with recent windows at the rear. The barn, located to the left, has a large central segmental arched carriage entrance and very large recent windows to the right. At the rear of the barn, there is a smaller segmental arched entrance and two mistal doors. The barn also features a square lantern at the end of the ridge to the left and has three slender king post trusses with double struts.
To the right of the house is the added brick cottage, which has stone quoins. There is an added stone porch with an ornamental lintel and moulded surround, along with two-light windows in stone surrounds at the rear.
