Description
The Boat House is a former group of cottages and a barn that has been converted into a single dwelling. It dates from the latest 17th century but is primarily from the late 18th century or early 19th century, with some recent alterations. At the north end, there are two early 19th century brick cottages. The building features hammer-dressed stone with some quoins and stone slate roofs, and it is two storeys high.
On the east elevation, the former late 18th century or early 19th century barn is located to the left and has been converted into single-storey living accommodation. There is a partly blocked square-headed barn door at the right end. To the right of this is the main cottage, which has quoins and a mix of single, two, three, and four-light windows, along with two recent doorways. There is an outshut to the rear with a 19th-century added wing. The rear of the former barn is plain, except for a partly blocked cart entry.
The two brick cottages added at the north end each have two three-light windows on their south elevation, all with stone surrounds, sashes, and glazing bars. The other elevations feature two-light windows. Inside, there is a brick, segmental vaulted cellar with stone shelves and a table. The timbers in these brick houses are earlier and appear to have been reused. In the original cottage, there is a single beam that is scarfed just in front of the fireplace. At the junction with the aisle at the rear, there is a post with an aisle-tie and arcade plate, and the roof features two very heavy king-post trusses.
