Description
Sheep Ings Farmhouse and attached barn is a farmhouse and barn built in the 17th century and late 18th century. It features a timber frame and brick construction with ashlar dressings and stone slate roofs. The building has three brick stacks. The central farmhouse is a single storey with attics, accompanied by a two-storey extension on the left and a barn on the right.
The central doorway has a four-panel door, with single three-light wooden casements on either side. Above the doorway, there are two dormer windows with two-light casements. To the left, there is a single doorway with a flush ashlar surround, leading to a glazing bar sash window with a flush ashlar lintel, and above it is a similar window. The barn to the right has a projecting aisled section made of coursed rubble and brick, featuring an off-centre double barn door.
Inside the original farmhouse, there are large chamfered oak spine beams, a central staircase, and two large 17th-century stone fireplaces, one of which has a 19th-century iron range. The barn contains a single central truss with arch-braced aisle posts and retains all its original roof timbers.
