Description

This is a canal milestone located on the south side of the Trent & Mersey Canal in Marston, dating from 1814. It is made of cast iron and features a circular post with a curved plate. The plate is inscribed in raised Roman capitals with the distances to Shardlow (84 miles) and Preston Brook (8 miles). The milestone was restored in 1977, and the initials T&MCS 1977 are inscribed on a raised quatrefoil on the post.
