Description
Hilly Bank Cottage is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates back to the 17th century and has been repaired and extended in the mid-20th century. The original 17th-century section features oak small framing with plaster panels, while the extensions are made of painted brick. The eastern face of the 17th-century wing has been recased in brick that resembles 18th-century style. The building has one storey plus attics. The oak-framed portion, which forms the south wing and connects to the north extension, has plaster panels that are nearly one metre square. The south wing was extended to the west in brick during the mid-20th century, and a brick north wing was added. The entrance door is made of broad oak boards and is fitted with ornate hinges. The windows have been renewed, and there is a later 19th-century plinthed shaped chimney made of brick, indicating a former lobby-entrance layout. The interior has been altered.
