Description
4 The Mount is a cottage built around 1870 by W Eden Nesfield for Rowland Egerton Warburton. It features a combination of brick and plaster-panelled oak framing, topped with clay tile roofs. The building is two storeys high and has an almost square plan, with a small outshut to the east and a one-storey wing added to the west. It has full-width gables on the east, north, and west sides. A glazed porch has been added to the south, which includes Nesfield's door with tapered boards that has been repositioned. The cottage has leaded casements with 1, 2, and 4 lights, and the north and east gables are timber framed. The west gable features plain plasterwork above a casement and has a shaped brick chimney on the right. The leaded panes are notably small. Inside, there are two oak beams and a closed stair located in the north-east corner, with a window in the outshut. This small cottage, likely built for a pensioner of the Arley estate, has lost some of Nesfield's original detailing.
