Description
A house, likely dating to the early 19th century or earlier, was later re-faced for Rowland Egerton Warburton, probably in the 1860s. The building is now divided into two separate dwellings at numbers 12 and 13 High Street. It is constructed of Flemish bond brown brickwork with a graded grey slate roof. The house has two storeys and three windows. A boarded front door features ornamental wrought iron hinges and a latch using the distinctive Arley estate pattern. To the lower storey on the right of the door is a two-light leaded mullioned casement, and to the left is a three-light mullioned casement with replaced glass. The upper storey has three two-light casements; the left one has replaced glass, while the others have fixed leaded lights and two-pane iron opening lights from which the leading has been removed. Window and door openings are chamfered. A corbelled brick chimney has a plinth and three separated, chamfered flues on each gable. An entrance to the rear of number 13 (the left bay) exists.
Inside number 12, an open-string dogleg staircase has a moulded rail, stick balusters, and a curtail. Remnants of oak posts and beams are visible. A small former stable with a hayloft, also featuring Arley estate detailing, sits at the rear. The building is included on the list for its group value.
