Description
No. 15 High Street is a cottage that likely dates from the mid-17th century and was later altered in the 19th century for Rowland Egerton Warburton. The front of the cottage features oak framing set on a brown brick plinth, with brick panels at each end. The ends and rear of the building have been rebuilt in brown brick, and it has a clay tile roof. The small framing is topped by a 19th-century plaster frieze decorated with sgraffito designs of Tudor roses and scrollwork. The cottage has one storey plus an attic and includes three windows. The entrance features a boarded door with wrought iron hinges and a latch typical of the Arley estate. There are two casement windows to the left and one to the right of the door, along with a small casement window beneath the eaves above the doorway, which has three panes to light the landing. A brick-plinthed chimney with a shaped stack is located on the ridge behind the doorway and has two attached diagonal flues, while a tall flush chimney is found on the left gable. The interior was not accessible for inspection, but visible oak beams suggest the presence of an altered cruck frame. A staircase rises to the front opposite the door.
