Post office and village shop with living accommodation, circa 1870 for Rowland Egerton Warburton, with some probably earlier features. Brown brick in English garden wall bond; clay tile roof with steeply-pitched gable to street. 2 storeys plus attic. Small wood-mullioned shop window of four 2-pane lights, each with a half-round plaster panel above; 3-light brick-mullioned leaded casement to 2nd storey; ornate brick corbel-band of 6 courses at eaves level; inserted 1950's metal casement in attic; blue-brick diapering to gable. Large lateral chimney, formerly of bakehouse, left; shop entrance in right end. The building is expressed as a crosswing to the adjoining cottages Nos. 17 and 18, left; Rowland Egerton Warburton encouraged his architects to respect the lively, informal rhythmn of the village street. Interior could not be inspected. Included for group value.
