Description
Nos. 17 and 18 on High Street are two cottages, likely built in the early 19th century and later modified for Rowland Egerton Warburton in the late 19th century. They feature a pebbledash exterior, probably over brick, with a brick plinth and a graded grey slate roof. The cottages are two storeys high and have three windows on each floor.
On the ground floor, from right to left, there is an iron casement window with three lights, which was formerly leaded. Next is a deeply recessed boarded door with ornate hinges and a latch typical of the Arley estate. This is followed by an inserted canted one-storey bay window with five lights, each containing eight small panes. There is also a door with four vertical panels and casement windows with leaded fixed lights on either side of a two-pane iron opening light. The second storey has three leaded casement windows, although the lead has been removed from the one on the right.
The cottages have two ridge chimneys: one is located behind the ridge near the left end, and the other is a flush chimney on the left gable. The brickwork at the back is exposed, which has replaced windows. The interiors have not been inspected. These cottages are included for their group value.
