Description

Dolphin Cottage is a cottage dating from the early 17th century. It is constructed with a brick-nogged timber frame and has a tile roof. The cottage is single-storey with an attic, originally comprising two bays, with a later brick lean-to at the west gable. A sandstone plinth is present, along with rectangular panelling with horizontal rails at the windows and at first-floor level. A boarded door is sheltered by a bracketted gabled canopy with curved braces to the apex and shaped barge boards with a finial. The windows are mainly three-light leaded casements with gudgeon-hung opening lights; those at the first floor are set within gabled dormers featuring barge boards and finials. The east gable is finished in painted brickwork, although timber framing is visible at the rear. Additional features include barge boards to the gables and gable end stacks. The interior retains bevelled beams and exposed ceiling joists.
